Homologation specials, each have their own charm, but none quite as spirited as the Lancia 037. This is the only 2WD car to have ever won a World Rally Constructors Championship against 4WD beasts. How many other racing cars have gone against pioneering technology backed by full factory support and said “… hold my capuccino”? Weighing in at 250 kgs less than the championship defending Audi Quattro (albeit underpowered by 50 bhp), the 037 won the constructors championship without even needing to compete in the last round at the RAC Rally. The 037 didn't feature any particular magic technology, it was simple engineering brilliance. Although short-lived (1982-1984), this is a vehicle, a motorsport icon with a great deal to treasure. Italian cunningness was fueled by partnering with Abarth and Dallara, while the romantically boxed off squat was sculpted by Pininfarina. 207 road “Stradale” versions were manufactured and if you ever get the chance to be in the same room as one
