The R53 Mini cooper S tribute edition
BMW's remake of the MINI brand was never going to be a subtle event. After all, the new brand, had big shoes to fill, both in large volume models, as with the sportier offerings. The new MINI was powered by the tritec line of engines and BMW's acclaimed rear Z-axle would guarantee sophisticated handling. The Cooper S was one of the main focus points in an attempt to bring the sporty model to a wider audience. Agility is the major calling card, with a shorter wheelbase than its rivals and pushed around corners with its supercharged 1.6 unit, the Cooper S certainly likes to keep itself on its toes. The John Cooper Works became the halo model which raised power to 210 bhp (nearly 50 more!). In 2005, this was a serious amount of stick for such a small feisty hatch!!!
